From behind the lens

From behind the lens

It’s been a while since we posted a blog here on the Turnstone site; too long really. But we’ve been busy looking after our clients and coming up with ideas for words and pictures. So I thought it would be good to give an idea of what’s been happening from the viewpoint of the lens, rather than the pen. After all, a picture is supposed to be worth a thousand words. I don’t know who said that, and I’m sure ‘the pen’ would disagree with me…

I took a quick look at some of the people and events I’ve photographed since our last post. These have included: the world’s two (probably) most-performed living playwrights, the Yorkshire-based frontman of heavy metal rockers Saxon, two artists on the edge and a space hopper record bounce along the seafront at Scarborough, not to mention a tiny Hebridean lamb which became a Twitter phenomenon, and a flock of distinctly unwoolly moorland sheep which appeared at the Chelsea Flower Show. There were also three well-known chefs – two classic Italian and one Michelin-starred English – and I haven’t even mentioned the man whose job title is The Mighty Eagle of Rovio yet!

It all outlines the variety and unpredictability of the job. You can go from standing in the back of an agricultural pick-up truck to photograph a family of rapeseed oil farmers to the magnificent interiors of a tiny Wolds church, all in the same day; you really have to be prepared for anything. Still, it keeps you on your toes, and we could never describe our working week as being boring.
